About Vishay

Growth Through Innovation and Acquisition

Vishay was founded in 1962 to manufacture and market foil resistors, an invention of physicist Dr. Felix Zandman, Chairman of the Board and founder. The Company began operations with foil resistors and strain gages as its initial product offerings. In 1985, having grown from a start-up into the world's leading manufacturer of these original products, Vishay began an ongoing series of strategic acquisitions to become a broad-line manufacturer of electronic components that provides "one-stop shop" service to customers. Today, Vishay is one of the world's largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components.

Vishay's acquisitions include such top names as Siliconix, Telefunken, the infrared component business of Infineon, General Semiconductor, Dale, Draloric, Sprague, Vitramon, and BCcomponents (the former passive components business of Philips Electronics and Beyschlag). These names and the products associated with them are integrated into one global company: Vishay.

Vishay components are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computer, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, and medical markets. Vishay's global footprint includes manufacturing facilities in China and other Asian countries, Israel, Europe, and the Americas, and sales offices around the world. Vishay sales offices in Asia are responsible for the generation of over one-third of total Vishay revenues.

"One-Stop Shop" Service

With Vishay's "one-stop shop" service, customers can send their bills of materials (BOMs) to Vishay and ask the Company to cross-reference Vishay products in all categories. This enables customers to order multiple components from one sourceVishay. In addition, Vishay's product sample service for design engineers provides free product samples worldwide. For more information about Vishay samples, please visit us on the Web at www.vishay.com/how/samples or contact a local Vishay sales representative or office.

Vishay has a diverse product portfolio from specialty to commodity components from resistors, capacitors, inductors, transducers and strain gages (passives) to diodes, rectifiers, transistors, MOSFETs, power ICs, analog switches and multiplexers (actives) to infrared data communication devices (IRDCs), LEDs, and IR emitters, detectors, and receiver modules (optoelectronics). Vishay's ability to provide "one-stop shop" service to customers, innovations in technology, superior product quality, successful acquisition strategy, and focus on cost reduction has made the company a global industry leader.

Discrete Semiconductors

Vishay Siliconix is the number 1 manufacturer worldwide of low-voltage power MOSFETs (metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors) used to manage, switch and convert power in computers, cell phones, and the communications infrastructure, and to control motion in computer disk drives and automotive systems.

Vishay Siliconix silicon technology and device-packaging milestones include the industry's first power MOSFETs built on a Trench silicon process (TrenchFET®s) and the industry's first power MOSFETs offered in small-outline, surface-mount packages (LITTLE FOOT®). This tradition of innovation continues with new technologies, such as WFET", designed to maximize power MOSFET performance in such applications as dc-to-dc conversion and load switching, and with new package options for better thermal performance (PowerPAK®) and smaller footprints (ChipFET®, MICRO FOOT®). Vishay Siliconix products also include power integrated circuits, as well as analog switches and multiplexers.

Power conversion for cell phones, notebook computers, and the fixed telecom infrastructure is the focus of Vishay Siliconix power IC developments, while new analog switching ICs are focused on lower-voltage, space-constrained applications.

Vishay Semiconductors is the number 1 manufacturer worldwide of infrared data communications devices (IRDCs), rectifiers, glass diodes, and IR receiver modules. The Vishay Semiconductors brand combines the products formerly branded Vishay Telefunken, and General Semiconductor, as well as the former infrared components business of Infineon Technologies.

Vishay's strength in advanced IR technologies such as high-radiant, double-hetero GaAlAs technology and fast, high sensitive photo PIN diodes provides the basis for Vishay's success in high-speed infrared transceivers for data communication and infrared receiver modules. In optocouplers, Vishay Semiconductors products comply with key safety standards such as VDE, UL, CSA, Fimko and BSI, and are used worldwide to make safer switchmode power supplies, AC/DC converters, and battery chargers.

The Vishay Semiconductors portfolio include Schottky, small-signal switching, RF-band switching, FM capacitance, RF PIN, suppressor, and Zener diodes, as well as bridge rectifiers, Schottky rectifiers, and fast- and ultra-fast- switching soft-recovery rectifiers and sinterglass Diodes. Small-signal transistors (RF and AF) and MOSMICs® complete the Vishay Semiconductors portfolio.

Passive Components

Vishay is the world's number 1 manufacturer of several categories of the passive components used in virtually all electronic systems. Power management, signal conditioning, motor control, data acquisition, and data transmission are just a few of the applications in which passive components from Vishay play a vital role.

Resistors

Vishay is the world's number 1 manufacturer of many types of resistors, including wirewound power resistors, foil resistors, thin film resistors, MELF resistors, leaded power film resistors, and leaded fusible resistors. This expansive product offering serves applications at all voltage levels and in all electronics market segments, from military and industrial to automotive and portable. Vishay innovations include low-value wirewound and Power Metal Strip® chip resistors and flip chip Bulk Metal® Foil resistors aimed at high-volume, high-precision analog applications.

In addition to its fixed resistors, Vishay offers variable resistors in several configurations, including potentiometers, trimmers, motion transducers, encoders, and dials. Non-linear NTC and PTC thermistors, and metal oxide varistors are also available.

Magnetics
Vishay Dale inductors and transformers are used in a wide range of applications, from RF signal filtering to dc-to-dc power conversion. With an offering that includes products as small as 0402 chip inductors and includes complex, multi-terminal devices, Vishay has one of the broadest standard product lines of any magnetics manufacturer. Vishay also is recognized as a market leader in custom magnetics used in implantable medical devices, instrumentation equipment, avionics and aerospace controls, and other high-end applications. Recent technology innovations include power inductors offering higher frequency operation, higher current ratings, lower DCR values, and smaller sizes than competing devices. Target markets for these high-performance inductors include dc-to-dc converters, filtering, and energy storage applications in end products including computers, servers, telecommunications equipment, and automotive subsystems.

Capacitors
Vishay is the world's number 1 manufacturer of wet tantalum and conformal-coated chip tantalum capacitors. It is also one of the largest manufacturers of molded tantalum SMD capacitors. Vishay capacitors range from tiny surface-mount devices for hearing aids and cell phones to the large power correction capacitors used in heavy industry. The Company's portfolio includes a wide range of capacitors for military systems and a broad selection of devices used in RFI suppression applications. Capacitors encompass the following dielectrics: oxidized aluminum, ceramic, plastic film, silicon dioxide, and tantalum pentoxide. Vishay has strong product offerings in all of these types and is one of the world's largest suppliers of MLCC capacitors to the automotive industry. Vishay made history when it announced new silicon-based RF capacitors with a range of 0.1 pF to 180 pF and capacitance stability from 1 MHz to several GHz - making them ideal for wireless communication systems. Innovation is a constant across all Vishay capacitor product lines, with regular introductions of new products that extend value ranges, increase reliability, and make a larger choice of package types available to designers.
